#500 and #511 are westbound crossing the Missouri River after passing the depot at Great Falls MT on May 26, 1973.

"Little Joes" E21 and E72 are being serviced at Harlowton MT on August 23, 1972. They are sitting east of the turntable and roundhouse.

A westbound train with EF-4 #E74, SD40-2's 3023, 3021, 3015 is at Deer Lodge MT on April 8, 1973.

"Little Joe" E78 leads boxcabs E29B, E36C and E29A at Deer Lodge MT on April 1, 1973 as they pass the depot. E78 was wrecked in 1966 in Sixteen Mile Canyon and was rebuilt using parts from EMD F unit diesels making it one-of-a-kind..

Eastbound EF4 #E74 is at Deer Lodge MT on June 8, 1974. The depot is on the right and the freighthouse on the left.

SD45 #4001 is leading a westbound consist west of Deer Lodge MT on April 8, 1973, It is assisted by SD40-2's #3038 and 3012. In a little more than a year the overhead wire will go dead forever.

Train #261 has SD40-2 #25 leading as it passes #162 at Deer Lodge MT on April 21, 1974. #162 was the only SD40-2 with the Roman style letteringon the number boards.

"Little Joe" E74 leads an eastbound at Deer Lodge MT on June 8, 1974. It was seven more days until of the end of electrification on the Milwaukee.

Train #200 with SD40-2's #19, 25, 134 and BA&P #107 are at Donald MT on May 19, 1979. The train has just crossed the Continental Divide eastbound and is beginning the long descent through Grace, Cedric and Vendome.

SD40-2 #207 leads a westbound reroute over former NP track on Homestake Pass, next to I-90 on September 12, 1976.

This same reroute train is descending the high bridge east of Butte MT on the former NP line over Homestake Pass on September 12, 1976. This pass is a little north of the Milwaukee's own Pipestone Pass.

This Butte, Anaconda & Pacific train is westbound in Durant Canyon MT with units 108, 105, and 109 on May 20, 1979. At this point the BA&P crosses over the Milwaukee and the former NP.

Train XE with #1509 is seen from the footbridge over the tracks at Harlowton MT on March 21, 1980. The footbridge was near the west end of the depot. The train has two GP35's, a GP30, a GP9 and another GP35. Also note the former ES-3 Class yard switcher #E57B boxmotor on display in the southeast portion of Chief Joseph Park, above the cab of 1504. E57B would later be moved uptown to its current location at the southwest corner of 2nd Street and Central Avenue.

Train #200 with SD40-2's and a GP9M is on Blacktail viaduct west of Penfield MT on February 8, 1980. Penfield is a little west of Pipestone Pass. This viaduct was the steepest eastbound grade approaching Pipestone Pass (1.66%). The MilWest Annual Meet in Butte in 1998 visited this viaduct on our tour.

Train #201 has SD40-2's 156, 134, and 137 leading past the Alberton MT depot on December 12, 1975. Train #202 is on the passing track behind.

Bicentennial SD40-2 #156 is leading train #201 past East Portal MT on December 20, 1975. Number 156 was painted in this scheme in November 1974. The Milwaukee was the first U.S. railroad to prepare a commemorative unit for the Bicentennial celebration in 1976. Number 156 covered most of the system in the few years it was painted in this scheme. It was supposed to always be on the point of the train but there is ample photo evidence that was not always the case.

#352 and 354 are on the east side of the Harlowton MT roundhouse on June 23, 1974.

#E57B and E34C, the final "Harlowton Switcher" at work on the west end of the yard as seen from the highway overpass. This power combination was needed due to the long trains switched here. #E57B performed alone for years but finally needed help.

SD40-2 #3000 is leading 2nd #261 westbound just west of Tunnel 26 in the Loop Creek area of Idaho, above Avery on May 11, 1974. This is now part of the "Route of the Hiawatha" trail.

This train is eastbound at the east end of the electrification on the Rocky Mountain Division at Harlowton MT on February 19, 1972. It has 61 cars pulled by GP9's #328, 327, and 331.
